Ms. Prasad provided an update on the recent MSMS Medical Student Section’s Lobby Day in Lansing. Ms. Prasad stated that the medical students were pleased with the outcomes from the House of Delegates meeting and thanked WCMS for their support of the students’ resolutions. She shared that a number of medical students will be attending the AMA Annual Meeting in June to further the discussion on many of the resolutions debated at HOD.
Dr. Mitchiner provided an overview of the recent House of Delegates meeting. Dr. Mitchiner discussed the MSMS Organizational Remodeling handout discussed at HOD and previous Executive Council meetings. At HOD, a Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) representative discussed that Georgia had experienced similar membership and budget issues faced by MSMS and counties today. Dr. Mitchiner shared that MSMS is considering a variety of proposals to both streamline and improve the membership process, the Board’s make- up, and offer opportunities for additional specialty voices. Dr. Mitchiner encouraged the Executive Council
to review MSMS’ recommendations and speak with him or Ms. Szlenkier about any ideas, concerns or questions over the summer.
Dr. Marshall shared that in uenza is circulating in Washtenaw County at decreasing levels. However, both In uenza A and B viruses continue to cause illness and hospitalizations. More hospitalizations have occurred this season for Washtenaw residents than in any  u season in the past decade (445 total since October 2017.)
Dr. Marshall stated that of particular concern are the record levels of STD rates in the county. There were 560 cases of gonorrhea in 2017 – the highest number of cases in 25 years. Chlamydia and syphilis rates have also increased in recent years of ce.
Dr. Eccles stated she is looking forward to seeing everyone at next week’s MedConnect event. A safe and happy summer was wished to all. The next Executive Council meeting will be held on Thursday, September 6 at 6:30 PM.
