Executive Council Meeting Highlights

Council members present: Drs. Andrew Barnosky; Richard Burney, WCMS Editor; Evelyn Eccles, President- Elect; Cheryl Farmer; Martha Gray; Terry Joiner; Samuel Mackenzie; Jessie Marshall; William Meurer; James Mitchiner; Fred Patterson; Sanjana Prasad; Evangeline Spindler; James Szocik; Sharon Swindell; Barbara Threatt; James Walden; and Gabrielle Szlenkier, Executive Director.
CALL TO ORDER – President-Elect Eccles 6:30 p.m.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA - A motion was made to approve the agenda by Dr. Farmer, seconded by Dr. Patterson. All in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstained. Motion carried.
APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS - The April 5 minutes were distributed to the Council prior to the meeting. A motion was made to approve the Consent Agenda of new members Drs. Heidi Flori; Diane Harper; and Mohit Rastogi by Dr. Farmer, seconded by Dr. Walden. All in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstained. Motion carried.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT – President-Elect Eccles stated that she would be chairing the meeting for President Nnodim as he is attending a medical conference. Ms. Szlenkier shared that Dr. Nnodim and she recently spoke at the VA on a session entitled “Organized Medicine and You: Washtenaw County Medical Society.” Attendees learned about the importance of advocacy and organized medicine and she is hopeful that attendees will consider joining WCMS/MSMS in the coming months. Dr. Eccles provided an update on Washtenaw’s work at the 2018 House of Delegates meeting. Dr. Eccles thanked the Washtenaw physicians that served as delegates and subcommittee chairs. The majority of resolutions brought forth by the county’s membership
were supported. Dr. Eccles encouraged those interested to consider serving as a delegate for the meeting next year. Ms. Szlenkier asked that the Executive Council consider the vaccination letter of support provided in the meeting materials. After discussion, a motion was made to approve the letters by Dr. Walden, seconded by Dr. Swindell. All in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstained. Motion carried. The letters will be sent to Reps. Donna Lasinski, Yousef Rabhi, and Adam Zemke, as well as Governor Snyder.
Reports of the committees and task forces:
 2018 Membership Advisory Committee – Dr. Evelyn Eccles, Chair: Dr. Eccles asked that the Executive Council review the circulating spreadsheets and identify colleagues they recognize for membership recruitment purposes. Dr. Eccles stated that Ms. Szlenkier and she have drafted renewal emails and can send them on behalf of interested parties for lapsed physician members.
 2018 General Session / Program Task Force – Dr. Evangeline Spindler, Chair. Dr. Spindler referenced the MedConnect  ier provided in the meeting materials. Dr. Spindler encouraged all Executive Council members to consider attending and stated that she’s looking forward to a positive public health discussion with Dr. Wells.
 2018 Legislative Committee – Dr. James Mitchiner, Chair: Dr. Mitchiner shared a brief update from the February meeting when issues including maintenance of certi cation, auto no-fault, and prescription drug diversions were discussed. Dr. Mitchiner encouraged those interested to attend the Legislative Meeting with local legislators and new MSMS lobbyist, Christin Nohner, on Monday, May 14 at 7:30 AM.
