PUBLIC HEALTH REPORT
Dr. Marquez reviewed the handout provided prior to
the meeting. Along with Dr. Cinti, the Executive Council discussed the growing public health threat, coronavirus. Highlights include:
Flu
As of 1/25/20 , there have been 1535 laboratory con- firmed influenza cases in Washtenaw County. There have been 79 hospitalizations reported. No pediatric or adult deaths have been reported. As of 1/29/20, both influenza A and B are being diagnosed, with influenza B still pre- dominating. Influenza A H1N1 is also circulating.

Per MDHHS (Michigan.gov/coronavirus) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitor- ing an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Prov- ince, China. Chinese authorities identified the new coro- navirus, which has resulted in thousands of confirmed cases in China, including cases outside Wuhan City.
MSMS NOMINATING COMMITTEE REPORT
Region 3’s representative, Dr. Koopmann, provided a summary of the MSMS Designated Director Nominating Committee’s work to prepare a slate of six candidates to serve on the MSMS Board of Directors at the 2020 House of Delegates. The seats are:
• Physician Organization Leader
• Independent Small Practice Physician
• Physician Serving as DIO/Representing GME Training
• Physician Leader from Health System;
• Physician Serving in Government/ Public Health Role; and,
• At-large Physician
HOUSE OF DELEGATES RESOLUTIONS DISCUSSION
Ms. Szlenkier reminded the Council that resolutions are due by March 1 to MSMS for HOD. The Council discussed

APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS – A motion was made to approve the agenda, meeting minutes
from January 9, and new members by Dr. Burney, seconded by Dr. Sain. All in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstained. Motion carried.
HONORARY MEMBER
 After discussion and with the intent to unite the relation- ship with surrounding counties in Region #3 prior to the MSMS House of Delegates meeting, the Executive Council made a motion to extent honorary membership to Brad Uren, MD by Dr. Junck, seconded by Dr. Cinti. All in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstained. Motion carried.

Membership Committee – Dr. Evelyn Eccles, Chair: Dr. Eccles provided an update on February members which included the U of M HOA mem- bers:
o Total: 891
• Medical Students: 116 • Residents: 66
• Retirees: 159
Legislative Committee – Dr. James Mitchiner, Chair: Dr. Mitchiner provided advocacy updates on state-wide advocacy efforts. WCMS is working on in conjunction with MSMS: unanticipated, out-of- network billing and prior authorization reform. S.B. 612, the prior authorization reform legislation, was heard in Committee on Thursday, January 30 be- fore the Health Can’t Wait Coalition. Dr. Mitchiner also reminded members to attend the Legislative Committee meeting on Monday, February 10 at WCMS beginning at 7:30 AM.
