Former WCMS President and Bulletin Editor Rudi Ansbacher, MD, Passes Away
Rudi Ansbacher, MD, emeritus professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan and former WCMS President and Bulletin Editor, passed away in Ann Arbor on January 3, 2018.
Dr. Ansbacher earned his M.D. degree
from the University of Virginia School of
Medicine in 1959 and his M.S. degree from
the University of Michigan in 1970.
Throughout his career, he served patients
across the nation in Virginia, North Carolina,
California, Texas, Washington, DC, and
ultimately chose Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan as his home. Dr. Ansbacher joined Michigan’s faculty in 1980 as professor of obstetrics and gynecology. He served as acting and interim chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and played an active role in the residency- training program. In 2003, the department established the Ansbacher Resident and Fellow Education and Research
Fund to support resident travel to local, regional and national meetings. Dr. Ansbacher retired from active faculty status on Dec. 31, 2001.
Dr. Ansbacher was also a longtime leader of WCMS. As Editor of the Bulletin from 2005-2016, WCMS President in 2006, and Executive Council member, he played an integral role in nearly every part of WCMS’ interactions with elected leaders, advocates, and physicians. His leadership and contributions will be missed.
Among family and friends, a celebration of life was planned for January 27. For those
who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Ansbacher’s memory may be made to the UMCCC Pancreatic Cancer Program Fund at victors.us/rudiansbacher. Checks may be made payable to “University of Michigan” and sent
to the Michigan Medicine Office of Development, 1000 Oakbrook Dr., Suite 100, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
