WELCOME Oryana West Culinary
Erin, Charles, & Taylor
It has been a busy few months at Oryana as we welcomed a brand new crew to our team, the Oryana West sta , formerly Lucky’s sta . The new store includes a fantastic culinary department. We caught up with Taylor, the Culinary Manager at West to get the scoop on food news and to  nd out more about him.
How long have you worked here and what’s your background?
I came on board here two months a er Lucky’s opened. I started in the meat department as a clerk, then became the meat manager, and then I was asked to be the culinary manager. I have a culinary arts degree from Schoolcra  College. I worked at the Grosse Pointe Country Club, Simply Fresh Market in Brighton, and as a sous chef at Schoolcra  before I came up here.
What are some of the most popular items in your department?
People love the kale Brussels sprouts salad, the potato kale cakes, twice baked potatoes, and Mexican street corn.
What’s your favorite item?
I really like the sesame noodle salad.
What do you  nd rewarding about your job?
I enjoy seeing the interactions between sta  and customers, seeing both customers and sta  happy. I have a great crew. (We have 20+ team members.) Everyone cares and goes above and beyond their normal duties.
What do you  nd challenging about your job?
It is a balancing act keeping customers happy by making all the dishes they have come to know and love and making new things that we want them to try. We like trying new things that we hope they’ll take a chance on. Lately it’s been challenging to source some ingredients, like beef and pork (due to national shortages.)
What are some things you would like Oryana owners to know?
Our focus is on having a good price point with good quality products made with natural ingredients. We hope to relaunch our salad bar soon as that was very popular. We’re not sure how it’s going to look yet. Our cafe is where you go for co ee, local kombucha and root beer on tap, and beer for our popular ‘sip and stroll’ program, where you can get a pint of beer to enjoy while you shop. We have ready-to-go dinners every day as well as freshly made sushi daily.
